Portable/Travel Scooters

These are just what their name implies, ready to get you on the road. Models in this category disassemble for easy transport in the trunk of most cars. Portable scooters are easy to lift into the trunk, with the heaviest piece on some models weighing as little as 22 pounds. Sealed batteries make them airline safe (*lithium batteries need to be removed and carried on the plane with you). As you might imagine, these travel scooters are compact so we do not recommend them for people over 5'10" or 300 pounds. Some great choices include Drive Medical, Golden Technologies, and Pride Mobility.

Full-Size Scooters

Full-sized scooters are designed for users who want more features and power. The individual pieces of a full-sized scooter are heavier and bulkier than those of a travel scooter. Some full-size scooters can be dissembled, not all of them and we do not recommend it. Each piece is significantly heavier than those of a travel scooter. Full-sized scooters have an excellent range of standard features and optional upgrades. Full size scooters perform well on smooth outdoor surfaces and provide hours of ride time. Their turning radius is typically larger than a travel scooter and they can also have wider overall widths. Make sure to measure your doorways and consider any tight spaces that you might need to maneuver in your home. We always suggest thinking about long narrow hallways and tight turns in the bathroom.

Recreational Scooters

Recreational scooters are designed with drive ranges up to 43 miles and top speeds of 15mph. Some of these scooters are not considered medical or mobility scooters, they are just as the category name states, recreational. Which means some of these scooters may not have a backrest or you may have to use a hand brake to slow the scooter due to the high travel speed. That being said these scooters are fun and zippy and can be an ideal option for commuting around your neighborhood or to the golf course!

Heavy Duty Scooters

If you weigh over 400 pounds, a might be a great mobility option for you. With both 3 and 4-wheeled models to choose from, and full and travel scooter options. These scooters offer weight capacities up to 500 pounds, wider seats and suspension options for comfort, there is sure to be a heavy-duty scooter that meets your needs.

Fully Assembled Weight: When assembled, scooter weights vary widely ranging from 50 lbs. to 200 lbs.

Turning Radius: This is the smallest circular turn the scooter can make. A tight turning radius allows for ease of operation and maneuvering around tight corners.

Ground Clearance: The space between the base of the tire and the undercarriage. Low clearance provides a stable ride. Higher clearance is needed for outdoor use to avoid damage to the bottom of the scooter.

Maximum Recommended Incline: This indicates the amount of an incline that the scooter can safely climb. This is important to consider when using outdoor sidewalks and exit ramps.

Portability: It is important to consider how you will transport your scooter. Travel scooters can be dissembled, and the pieces can be loaded into the trunk of your vehicle. Full-Size Scooters require a vehicle lift or ramp to transport.

Headlights : Ideal for lighting up dark hallways or dimly lit areas

Suspension: Scooters with suspension can add comfort when driving down sidewalks, the suspension helps absorb the bumps and sidewalk cracks

Seat Options: Scooters come with two major seat styles, stadium seats with lower backrests and full back captain seats. These seats come in many different widths and depths. For ideal comfort it is important to select a scooter that has the right size seat for you.

Selecting Mobility Scooters

Selecting Your Mobility Scooter

SpinLife offers the widest selection of electric mobility scooters for sale.  Our great selection means we can help you get the right electric mobility scooter for your needs.

Not sure where to start?
Visit our knowledge center, SpinLife University, or read the following basic overview.

Portable/Travel Scooters

These are just what their name implies, ready to get you on the road. Models in this category disassemble for easy transport in the trunk of most cars. Portable scooters are easy to lift into the trunk, with the heaviest piece on some models weighing as little as 22 pounds. Sealed batteries make them airline safe. As you might imagine, these travel scooters are compact so we don't recommend them for people over 5'10" or 300 pounds. Some great choices include Invacare scooters and Pride scooters.

3-Wheel Scooters

A step up in size and features from the travel scooters, 3-wheel scooters offer full-sized comfort with three-wheeled maneuverability. They are the perfect choice if your mobility needs demand a scooter that you can use both indoors and out. With weight capacities up to 350 pounds and available features like power-elevating seats, there is a scooter for most everybody in this category. We carry all the top manufacturer brands including Golden and Pride scooters.

4-Wheel Scooters

When you need maximum stability or are going to be using your equipment predominantly outdoors, a 4-wheeled scooter might be a better choice. On the larger models, the higher ground clearance and bigger tires make these a great choice for more rugged terrain, and some go as fast as 10 mph. The turning radius is wider, so the full-size models are not the best choice for indoor usage. Many find these ideal work and play outdoors.

Heavy Duty Scooters

If you weigh over 350 pounds, these heavy duty mobility scooters are for you. With both 3 and 4-wheeled models to choose from, and with weight capacities up to 500 pounds, there is sure to be a heavy duty scooter that meets your needs.

Common Questions

Can I take my scooter on an airplane?
All mobility scooters sold at SpinLife have batteries that are "maintenance free" and are allowed on airlines. SpinLife advises that regardless of your maintenance free battery type ("gel cell" or "sealed lead acid") that you check with the airline directly to get their approval.

Can I take my scooter on a cruise?
Many cruise companies recently updated their mobility scooter policy. Their new requirements state that,  scooters may not be left in hallways, they must fit through the stateroom door (22') and should be able to be folded or dissembled once in the room so they can be stored under the bed or in the closet.  Each cruise line has different scooter regulations. It is always best to check their corporate website for the most current requirements.

Will I be charged sales tax?
SpinLife is required to collect sales tax for items shipped to certain states. Please click here: Sales Tax Info to see if your state is on the list.

Is shipping free?
Yes, standard ground shipping is FREE for all electric scooters. (Orders over $50 always ship for free at SpinLife.)

What happens if my scooter breaks down?
SpinLife is here to support you throughout the life of your equipment and this includes helping you with any problems that may arise after you receive your scooter. Please contact us directly at 1-800-850-0335 and we will attempt to troubleshoot it over the phone. Many times, it is the flip of a switch or reconnecting a wire to help you get on your way again. If we are not successful with that, or it indicates a bigger problem, we will arrange for a service technician to come to your home to troubleshoot and/or repair your unit. Selecting our No Worries Service Contracts at the time of purchase allows you to rest easy know you are covered and there will not be a service call cost should something happen to your scooter.

What happens if I want to return my mobility scooter?
If your motorized scooter arrives and it is not what you expected or needed, you can return it within 30 days as long as it is unused (tires are clean and no scratches) and in its original packaging. On all units, the customer is financially responsible for freight charges. If the scooter arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, SpinLife will arrange for freight and for shipping you an undamaged or corrected unit. Please see our Return Policy for details.
